Myriota Impact & Access Fund FAQs

The Myriota Impact & Access Fund is a grant program that supports students from remote Australian communities who are studying STEM at a South Australian university. The fund aims to reduce financial barriers to higher education and help develop the next generation of innovators in science, engineering and technology.

The Myriota Impact & Access Fund is a grant program. It provides financial assistance to eligible students to help cover accommodation and study-related costs as they continue their university studies.

Up to three students will be selected to receive funding for the 2027 academic year.

Successful applicants may receive up to $7,000 each to assist with accommodation and study-related expenses.

Funding will be paid in instalments throughout the 2027 academic year, subject to the terms and conditions of the program*.

The Myriota Impact & Access Fund is fully funded by Myriota as part of the company’s commitment to supporting equitable access to STEM education and helping build Australia’s future science and technology workforce.

Students enrolled at any accredited South Australian university are eligible to apply, provided they meet all other eligibility requirements. Accredited Universities include Adelaide University and Flinders University. 

Eligible students must be enrolled in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) degree. This includes disciplines such as engineering, computer science, information technology, mathematics, physics, environmental science and related fields.

Applicants under 18 are welcome to apply. If you are under 18, we will ask a parent or guardian to countersign the grant acceptance.

For the purposes of the Myriota Impact & Access Fund, a remote region is defined using the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) Remoteness Areas, specifically Remote (RA4) and Very Remote (RA5) locations. Applicants may be asked to provide evidence of their permanent home address.

Applicants should have originated from a remote Australian community prior to commencing their university studies. Students who have relocated to attend university remain eligible, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

Yes. There is no age limit for applicants. Eligibility is based on the program criteria rather than the applicant’s age.

No. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents to be eligible

Yes. Permanent residents are eligible for the fund, providing have come from a remote region. 

The Myriota Impact & Access Fund is intended to support students undertaking full-time undergraduate study. Applicants must be enrolled full-time and progressing into the second year of an eligible STEM degree at a South Australian university in 2027.

Students who remain enrolled in an eligible STEM degree at a South Australian university may still be eligible. Eligibility will be assessed based on their circumstances and continued alignment with the program’s objectives.

Yes. Students may apply even if they receive other scholarships or financial assistance, provided they meet the eligibility requirements. Applicants should disclose any existing scholarships during the application process.

Applicants are expected to have successfully completed their first year of study and be eligible to progress into their second year in 2027. Selection will consider academic commitment alongside the program’s focus on supporting students who have overcome barriers to accessing higher education.

Applications must be submitted through the Myriota Impact & Access Fund online application portal. Applicants are required to complete the application form and upload all supporting documentation before the closing date.

Applicants will need to provide:

• A personal statement responding to the application prompt.
• Proof they originated from a regional or remote Australian community (such as a high school completion certificate or documentation confirming their home address).
• Proof of current enrolment in an eligible full-time STEM degree at a South Australian university.
• A character reference from a university tutor or lecturer, former high school teacher or principal, or a community or Indigenous leader.
• A copy of their Semester 1 university transcript (official or unofficial).

Applications close at 11:59 pm ACDT on 11 October 2026. 

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted following the assessment process and invited to participate in a brief online interview. Successful applicants will be notified before the commencement of the 2027 academic year.

Applications are assessed by a selection panel comprising representatives from Myriota with experience across leadership, engineering and community engagement. Applications are assessed against the published selection criteria to ensure a fair and consistent process.

Students must submit their own application through the online application portal. Universities are encouraged to promote the fund to eligible students.

Yes. University staff are encouraged to support eligible students. Tutors and lecturers may also provide a character reference as part of the application.

Yes. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in a 15-minute Google Meet interview with the selection panel. The interview provides applicants with an opportunity to discuss their aspirations, their experiences, and how the grant would support their university journey.

Protecting applicants’ privacy is important to Myriota. Applications are submitted through a secure online application portal hosted with Australia and personal information is accessed only by those involved in administering and assessing the program. Personal information is used solely for the purposes of assessing applications and administering the grant. Once the application process has concluded, personal information will not be retained beyond what is required to finalise the program and meet any legal or administrative obligations.

The grant is paid in two instalments across the 2027 academic year*:

• $3,500 at the start of Semester 1, upon confirmation of enrolment in the second year of an eligible full-time STEM degree at a South Australian university.
• $3,500 at the start of Semester 2, upon confirmation of successful completion of Semester 1 and continued full-time enrolment.

Grant payments are made directly to the successful recipient. The funds are intended to assist with accommodation and other study-related expenses.

The Myriota Impact & Access Fund may affect a student’s eligibility for Centrelink payments or other government assistance, depending on their individual circumstances. Applicants are encouraged to seek advice directly from Services Australia or a qualified financial adviser if they have questions about how the grant may impact their entitlements.

The tax treatment of grant funding depends on an individual’s circumstances. Recipients should seek independent taxation advice if they have any questions about their personal tax obligations.

Recipients who defer or withdraw from their studies must notify Myriota as soon as possible. If this occurs before the second instalment is paid, any remaining funding may be withheld. Decisions regarding exceptional circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The grant is intended to support students studying at a South Australian university. If a recipient transfers to another eligible South Australian university and continues to meet the program’s eligibility requirements, they may remain eligible to receive the remaining funding. Transfers to universities outside South Australia will generally make the recipient ineligible for any unpaid instalments.

Yes. We encourage South Australian universities to promote the Myriota Impact & Access Fund through scholarship offices, student support services, STEM faculties, equity and inclusion teams, and other relevant channels to help raise awareness among eligible students.

Absolutely. We encourage universities, faculties and student groups to share the application link across their social media channels and other communications to help reach eligible students.

The grant is not linked to an internship or graduate program, and recipients are not guaranteed employment with Myriota. However, recipients will be encouraged to explore future internship and career opportunities with Myriota as they become available.

While the grant does not include a formal mentoring program, recipients may have opportunities to connect with Myriota employees and learn more about careers in the space and technology sectors through program activities.

Women and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples remain underrepresented across many STEM disciplines, particularly in engineering and space-related fields. Myriota encourages applications from these groups to help broaden participation and ensure talented students from diverse backgrounds are aware of the opportunity.

No. The Myriota Impact & Access Fund is awarded through a competitive assessment process based on the published selection criteria. Encouraging applications from underrepresented groups does not mean places are reserved or guaranteed.
